گلوتارآلدئید (Glutaraldehyde) با فرمول شیمیایی C₅H₈O₂ یک ترکیب آلی با دو گروه آلدهید است که در دسته دی‌آلدهیدها قرار می‌گیرد.
گلوتارآلدهید مایعی بی رنگ، روغنی و با بویی تند و زننده است که به عنوان گند زدا، دارو ،نگهدارنده و تثبیت کننده fixativeبه کار می رود.

کاربردهای گلوتارآلدئید
گلوتارآلدئید یکی از قوی‌ترین ضدعفونی‌کننده‌های سطح بالا است و در غلظت‌های ۲٪ به‌عنوان محلول سرد استریلیزاسیون برای تجهیزات حساس پزشکی (مثل آندوسکوپ، دستگاه تنفس و...) کاربرد دارد.
در علوم زیستی، گلوتارآلدئید به‌عنوان فیکساتیو (fixative) برای تثبیت سلول‌ها و بافت‌ها پیش از مشاهده در میکروسکوپ الکترونی استفاده می‌شود. این ماده ساختار سلولی را به خوبی حفظ می‌کند.
از گلوتارآلدئید در فرآیند دباغی چرم برای تثبیت ساختار پروتئینی و در صنعت کاغذ برای کنترل کیفیت استفاده می‌شود.
در برخی از فرمولاسیون‌های ضدخزه و ضدباکتری سیستم‌های آب صنعتی مانند برج‌های خنک‌کننده یا سیستم‌های بسته خنک‌کاری استفاده می‌شود.

Hospital staff often use it diluted with water. Aqueous solutions of glutaraldehyde are typically present in concentrations of 1% to 50%, but other formulations are available. Its brand names include Cidex, Sonacide, Sporisidin, Hospex, Omnicide, Metricide and wavicide.
Contact with glutaraldehyde can cause the following side effects: irritation of the throat and lungs, asthma, asthma-like symptoms and difficulty breathing, nasal irritation, sneezing and wheezing, nosebleeds, eye irritation and conjunctivitis, pruritus, contact or allergic dermatitis, skin blemishes, Hives, headaches and nausea.
There is no evidence that glutaraldehyde is carcinogenic, and because glutaraldehyde is less toxic than formaldehyde, many countries use glutaraldehyde extensively. Glutaraldehyde is toxic and allergenic and it is
